National City Clergy Association

The National City Clergy Association exists to:

  • Gather leaders in prayer
  • Encourage leaders through fellowship
  • Impact our city through collaboration

The National City Clergy Association was established in 2016. Then, Vice Mayor of National City, Albert Mendivil was inspired by God to contact local churches to engage the interest in uniting the Body of Christ in National City. As a result, a small core group of pastors stepped out in faith to meet for the first time in January 2016.

The group was led by Albert Mendivil for the first year. At the one year mark Albert insisted that one of the ordained pastors step up to lead the group. At that point Pastor Eddie Duenas volunteered to lead the group and has been our leader since January 2017. Pastor Eddie and Albert have worked well together to keep the fire burning by planning monthly meetings, organizing events to unite the Christian community, serving the people, and sharing the love of Jesus with all.

In May, 2016, our first event came to fruition. The National Day of Prayer event in Kimball Park was born on May 5, 2016. Two-hundred and fifty people from ten churches united to worship God and pray publicly for our city, county, state, and country. This has become our signature event of the year. After a two year hiatus due to Covid the National Day of Prayer came back strong in 2022 when over seven- hundred passionate worshipers from over twenty churches united in Kimball Park.
Victory Outreach Church collaborated with Heart Revolution Church to provide inspired worship music and were affectionately named the Victory Revolution Worship Team. Many local pastors prayed and the evening ended with an unplanned altar call. Hundreds of people came to the altar for prayer.

The National Day of Prayer has a rich history in National City. Led by Pastor Carolyn Nichols, Southport Christian Center School would walk to city hall to pray around the flag pole with city officials. This practice went on for twenty four years until the school closed in 2005. From 2005 to 2015 Pastor Carolyn passed the torch to adults from city hall who would meet her at the flag pole in prayer. Little did Pastor Carolyn know that her faithfulness would lead to the 2022 event that attracted over seven-hundred participants.

In addition to National Day of Prayer, pouring love on the community has become a common practice for the association. Following is a list of typical activities that occur and the list is growing:

  • Quarterly feed lunch to the entire NCPD staff.
  • Collaborate with the NCPD to provide Thanksgiving turkeys and fixings to 50 families.
  • Collaborate with NCPD to provide Christmas hams, fixings, toys, and other items to approximately 25. families.
  • Provide a free crafts booth to families at the annual Lion’s Club, National City Fourth of July Carnival.
  • Collaborate with non-profit “It Ends With Us” to provide free backpacks and school supplies for over 50 children. As well as other organizations assisting them with spiritual and physical needs they may have.

The National City Clergy Association is a registered 501 (c) (3) non profit organization committed to showing the love of Jesus to the community.”
